The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a terrible tragedy is the eyes of America. It changed the way all the people went about life. "For some, that gruesome moment in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, marked the end of a national innocence" (Spencer 5) On November 21, 1963 Kennedy traveled down to Texas to fix an argument between liberal and conservative wings. The next day he flew from Fort Worth to Dallas, Texas to speak at the Dallas Trade Mart. There JFK and his wife Jacqueline met with Texas governor John Connally and his wife. All four of them rode in an open-car motorcade through Dallas. ("John F. Kennedy: assassination" 1) Many people came out to see the president, standing wherever they could get the best view and wave at him. Everything was going normal until he turned onto Elm Street. (Spencer 11)
The sound of a loud crack broke up the crowds and President Kennedy gripped his neck. The bullet that had hit Kennedy strangely hit Connally too causing him to collapse. Another bullet was shot, this time hitting Kennedy's head "... jerking his body violently onto his wife's lap" (Spencer 12) Like any normal person Jackie panicked, she then attempted to climb out the back of the limo, but the secret agent in the car wouldn't allow her too. The limo then raced to the nearest hospital at 12.30 pm. Once arriving at the hospital Jackie made sure that she never left Kennedy's side. "Even as doctors attempted to save his life, she remained in the room, putting her wedding ring on his finger as they pronounced him dead" (Spencer 13)
Kennedy was "pronounced dead at 1:00 pm" ("John F. Kennedy: assassination" 1) After the tragedy had taken place doctors operated on Connally, after several hours being in surgery, the doctors said he was going to be alright and make a full recovery.(Spencer 13) Later that day, around 2:38 pm the Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson stepped up to become president. This happened at Love field on an airplane that was going to carry John F. Kennedy's body to Washington D.C. ("John F. Kennedy: assassination" 1) Yet while Kennedy was in immediate care he stayed at the hospital and contemplated his next move and feared about his own life and safety. The process of leaving got complicated tho, the secret service wanted LBJ to go to Washington DC immediately. He didn't want to leave until Jackie was with him, and she wouldn't leave until her husband's body was with her. (Spencer 13) While all this commotion was happening Dallas police began searching for the man who shot the president. ("John F. Kennedy: assassination" 1)
14.5/15 Good writing overall, and interesting stuff. I didn't know about Connally. Periods are missing after some of the citations. You do a good job blending information from different sources, though.
